Heritage rehabilitation and archaeological integration in a historic building

The comprehensive rehabilitation of L’Alqueria Albors has brought new life to a building of significant historical and ethnological value, combining architectural restoration, archaeological work, and functional adaptation for public use as a Multi-Purpose Social Center.

History, Architecture and Memory

Prior to construction, a full archaeological excavation revealed the alquería’s origins as a medieval mill with an adjoining small dwelling. Over the centuries, the building was expanded and altered, eventually losing its original function and becoming an alquería by the late 19th century.

The rehabilitation approach was based on a deep respect for the existing historical elements, restoring walls, roofs, flooring, and structural components, and enhancing the value of the old underground hydraulic galleries, now accessible thanks to careful conditioning.

A functional, accessible space connected to its past

The original structure has been reorganized to house classrooms, an administrative area, changing rooms, restrooms, and multipurpose spaces. The original carriage entrance has been preserved and repurposed as the main hall, and wooden beams have been reinforced using reversible techniques that respect the building’s character.

At the rear, a panoramic elevator has been added to ensure full accessibility to the upper floor, where a large open attic ("cambra") has been adapted for activities such as dance and gymnastics.

An adjacent volume houses workshops for tailoring, crafts, and visual arts. All original openings have been preserved due to the building’s protected status.
